How to use the Queens solver
- Upload or paste a PNG or JPEG screenshot, or use the board editor.
- Select a grid size from 5×5 to 12×12. Crop the screenshot to the square grid, excluding labels and margins.
- Recognize its colored regions, review the result and confirm. Correct any misread cells. Enter existing crowns and X marks manually.
- Choose Explain next move for a highlighted rule and an optional move you can apply. Use Undo to take that move back.
- Choose Show a solution to see an arrangement found by search. The solver says when more than one answer fits or its search cannot finish.
A worked Queens example
Every row, column and colored region needs exactly one crown. Crowns cannot touch, even diagonally. This is a region puzzle, not the chess eight queens problem.
In this original 5×5 board, region 1 contains only the top-right cell. Its crown must go at row 1, column 5. You can then rule out the other cells in row 1 and column 5, plus the touching cells at row 2, columns 4 and 5. Each move follows the printed rules.
Common questions
Can I solve a Queens puzzle from a screenshot?
Yes, when its regions have distinguishable colors and you select a clear square crop. Review the detected regions before solving. Crowns and X marks are not recognized in this version. Add your current marks in the editor.
Does the screenshot leave my device?
No. This tool decodes the image and samples its colors in your browser. It does not upload or save the image. A shared board link contains only the regions and marks.
Does it work with other Queens games?
You can enter any 5×5 to 12×12 board with these same rules and exactly as many regions as rows. The regions do not need to follow row boundaries. This tool does not fetch puzzles from other websites or import their links.
What if a screenshot cannot be recognized?
Align the crop to the grid edges and check its size. Use a sharper screenshot if cell colors are blurred. Similar colors, patterned regions, overlays and tilted photos may need manual entry. Select a region color and paint its cells.
Are all hints forced?
An explained move follows a supported local rule using your current regions and marks. If the supported rules cannot find a move, the tool says so. A complete solution found by search is shown separately and is not presented as a step-by-step proof.
Why can there be multiple solutions or no solution?
A missing region boundary or an incorrect crown or X can change which answers fit. Multiple solutions mean the entered board does not force one complete arrangement. No solution means no arrangement satisfies those regions and marks. A search limit means the tool has not proved either conclusion.
Can I share the board with someone?
Copy board link includes the region layout and your marks. The recipient can edit or solve the same board without an account. Share boards you created or have permission to share. This independent tool has no affiliation with another puzzle publisher.
