Queens puzzle rules

These are the constraints Coronet enforces on every board — Today, Archive, and Practice. They match the popular “color queens” genre.

The four constraints

  1. Rows: exactly one crown in each row.
  2. Columns: exactly one crown in each column.
  3. Colors: exactly one crown in each connected color region.
  4. Separation: no two crowns share an edge or a corner.

What an X means

An X is your note that a square cannot hold a crown. It is not scored; it is a thinking aid. Auto-place X and Check help catch mistakes early.

Board sizes

Today’s size varies by date. Practice offers 5×5 through 12×12. Larger expert sizes have a small free daily quota unless you Unlock All.
