# How to play Mini Sudoku

Mini Sudoku is number placement: fill the grid so that every row, every column, and every box contains each digit exactly once. Coronet’s daily is 6×6 with 2×3 boxes and the digits 1 to 6. Unlimited also offers 4×4 for a quick warm-up and classic 9×9.

## Rules

- **Place digits 1–N with no repeats** — Fill every cell. Daily Mini Sudoku is 6×6 (digits 1–6). Unlimited also offers 4×4 and classic 9×9.
- **No digit twice in a row, column, or box** — You cannot repeat a number in any row, column, or thick-bordered box. Mini boards use 2×3 boxes; 9×9 uses 3×3.
- **Pencil notes, then commit** — Tap a cell, then a digit. Toggle ✎ notes (or press N) to mark candidates. Hint places a safe digit when you are stuck.
- **Do not guess on Mini** — You cannot treat 6×6 dailies as trial-and-error. Conflicts highlight red — clear them. Every board has one solution.

## Tips

- **Naked singles** — If a cell has only one candidate, place it. Recompute notes after every placement.
- **Box / line pointing** — When a digit’s candidates in a box sit in one row, erase that digit from the rest of the row.
- **Don’t guess on Mini** — 6×6 dailies are singles and pointing. If you’re branching, a note is stale.
- **Use notes on 9×9** — Unlimited 9×9 needs pencils. Hide notes only after the digit is placed for real.

## Where it comes from

Sudoku spread worldwide after Nikoli repackaged an older Latin-square puzzle in the 1980s. The mini sizes — 4×4 Shi Doku and 6×6 — apply the same uniqueness rules to a smaller box, which keeps the deductions honest while cutting the solve to a few minutes. That is why 6×6 became the commute-sized standard.

## How it differs from similar puzzles

4×4 Shi Doku uses 2×2 boxes and is mostly a warm-up. 9×9 classic Sudoku uses 3×3 boxes and rewards longer chains of reasoning. Killer, Thermo, and the other constraint variants add rules on top of the grid; Coronet stays with the plain uniqueness rules at every size.
