# How to play Nexus

Nexus shows five clues that all belong to one hidden category. Your job is to name the shared association — planets, fonts, Beatles — rather than supply another example. Each wrong guess reveals the next clue, so the earlier you commit the better you score.

## Rules

- **Name the one hidden category** — Five clues all belong to the same association. Type the shared bucket (planets, fonts, Beatles) and Guess.
- **Do not answer with another member** — You cannot win by naming a sixth example. The answer is the class those clues sit in, not another item on the list.
- **Wrong guesses unlock the next clue** — Clue 1 is visible immediately. Each miss reveals the next clue. Synonyms usually count.
- **There is no hint button** — You cannot ask the engine for the category. After all five clues, keep guessing or tap Answer to reveal and end the round.

## Tips

- **Wait for clue 3** — The first clue is often a stretch. Two more usually name the category without burning guesses.
- **Think class, not example** — The answer is the shared bucket (planets, fonts, Beatles) — not another member of the list.
- **Synonyms are OK** — Try the obvious noun, then a close cousin (e.g. “colors” / “colours”) before unlocking more clues.
- **Stop when it’s named** — One solid category beats five vague ones. Submit when the link is crisp.

## Where it comes from

One-category association games grew out of quiz formats: the connecting wall, where several hidden groups share a grid, and the older “odd one out” list. Distilling that down to five clues revealed one at a time, with a single named category to find, is what makes it work as a daily. Nexus follows that shape.

## How it differs from similar puzzles

Clusters, also in this arcade, is the four-group cousin: sixteen words sorted at once instead of one category revealed gradually. Jeopardy-style category titles run the other direction, giving you the name and asking for examples. Nexus sits in between, trading a clue for each miss.
