# How to play Hive

Hive gives you seven letters in a honeycomb. Make words of four letters or more using only those letters, and every word must include the center letter. Score points for each find; pangrams that use all seven letters earn a bonus. Reach Genius — about four-fifths of the maximum score — to finish the daily.

## Rules

- **Make words from seven letters** — Tap letters or slide across the hive to build a word. Every answer must be at least four letters, use only the hive letters, and include the center letter.
- **Do not skip the center** — A word that ignores the center letter will not score, even if it is in the dictionary.
- **Score points toward Genius** — Four-letter words are worth one point. Longer words score their length. Pangrams that use every letter earn a +7 bonus.
- **Do not repeat a found word** — Once a word is accepted it stays on your list. Submitting it again wastes a turn.

## Tips

- **Shuffle the ring** — The outer six letters can rotate. A fresh angle often spots a plural or past tense you missed.
- **Hunt pangrams early** — A pangram jumps your score and often unlocks several shorter words built from the same letters.
- **Plural and tense forms** — If you find TREE, try TREES. If you find MAKE, try MAKES and MAKER.
- **Genius is the daily win** — Reach Genius — about 80% of the hive's max score — to finish the board. Hint reveals one word when you are stuck.

## Where it comes from

Anagram hives and pangram hunts predate the daily web format, but the modern loop is the same: one shared letter set, a rank ladder, and bragging rights for long words and pangrams.
