# How to play Glyph

Glyph hides one answer word. Submit guesses the same length; each row comes back with green for correct letters in the right spot, amber for letters that belong elsewhere, and gray for letters not in the word. The daily is five letters with six guesses.

## Rules

- **Guess the hidden word in six tries** — Type a valid word the same length as the answer, then press Enter or Check. Each guess must be in the word list.
- **Do not ignore the color marks** — Green means the letter is in the right spot. Amber means it belongs somewhere else in the word. Gray means it is not in the answer.
- **Use earlier rows to narrow letters** — Lock greens, shuffle ambers, and drop grays from your keyboard mental model before you burn another row.
- **Random words waste rows** — You only get six guesses on a daily five-letter board. Each submit should test new letters or a new arrangement.

## Tips

- **Open with balanced vowels** — A first guess with two or three common vowels plus varied consonants maps the alphabet fast.
- **Hard mode in your head** — Keep every green pinned and reuse every amber somewhere new — it stops repeat mistakes.
- **Unlimited lengths** — Practice can be four, five, or six letters. The daily is always five.
- **Undo fixes typos** — Backspace and Undo both recover a half-typed row before you submit.

## Where it comes from

Feedback-driven word guessing became a commute staple once daily grids shared one answer worldwide. The green-amber-gray mark system is the modern shorthand for that deduction loop — test letters, read the marks, shrink the possibilities.

## How it differs from similar puzzles

Glyph Unlimited adds four- and six-letter boards with slightly larger guess budgets. The daily stays at five letters so everyone compares the same row count.
